History

1998 – the Kazakh National Academy of Music (KazNAM) was established in Astana by the Decree of the Government of the RoK No. 269 as of March 31.

1998 – by the Order of the Minister of Education of the RoK No. 28 as of April 15, the People’s Artist of the RoK, Professor Aiman Mussakhajayeva was appointed the rector of the new Academy.

1998 – on June 2, the official opening of the Academy took place; it was attended by the President of the RoK N. Nazarbayev.

2000 – reconstruction of the main building of the KazNAM.

2002 – the first enrollment for the Acting Skills and Directing specialties was made.

2003 – the first enrollment for the Variety Art specialty was made.

2005 – opening of the Organ Hall.

2005 – the I International Violin Competition was held.

2007 – organ and harp classes were opened.

2009 – in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the RoK as of 12 October, the KazNAM received a new status and was renamed the Kazakh National University of Arts (KazNUA).

2010 – new creative specialties (Cultural Studies, Art Studies, Choreography, Painting, Sculpture, Directing, Operator’s Art, Scenography) were opened.

2014 – a visit by the President of the RoK N. Nazarbayev to the report concert of the KazNUA together with the Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak.

2015 – the XLIII World ICTM Conference (International Council on Traditional Music) was held in the KazNUA; it was attended by more than 800 leading scientists and music art organizers from more than 70 countries.

2017 – the KazNUA hosted the X International Youth Contest named after P. Tchaikovsky.

2017 – a pavilion of Kazakh cinema was organized at the LXX International Cannes Film Festival (France), and short films of the KazNUA’s students were demonstrated.

2017 – participation of the KazNUA in the cultural program of the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO-2017.

2017 – signing a cooperation agreement with the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and the Hollywood Music Institute.

2018 – organization of the International Astana Art Science Forum.

2018 – opening of the reading room “The collection of AK Musahadzhayeva and the fund of rare publications”.

2018 – organization of the I International Competition of Young Composers Samal.
