Regulations of the IX International Violin Competition “Astana Violin”

General provisions

  1. The IX International Violin Competition (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) is held in accordance with subparagraph 12 of Article 7 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Culture” of December 15, 2006.
  2. The competition is held in a remote format from September 20 to 24, 2021 on the basis of the Kazakh National University of Arts with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Goals and objectives of the Competition

  1. The goals and objectives of the Competition are:
  • popularization of classical music in Kazakhstan;
  • improving the professional skills of talented musicians;
  • identifying and stimulating capable and talented musicians, improving the cultural image of Kazakhstan.

The procedure and conditions of the Competition

  1. Violinists, as well as students of specialized educational institutions of Kazakhstan
  • and foreign countries can take part in the Competition in two age groups:
    the Junior group: from 10 to 15 years inclusive;
    the Senior group: from 16 to 28 years inclusive.
  1. The Competition consists of two rounds, which are held on the YouTube channel of the Competition: “IX International Violin Competition Astana Violin”
  2. Each round of the competition is evaluated according to a 25-point system.
  3. After sending an electronic application, changes in the program are not allowed.
  4. The programs of the first and second rounds are performed by heart.
  5. All works must be presented on the principle of “one tour – one record”, i.e. all theworks of the tour in one video.
  1. Any types of editing of competitive video/audio materials are prohibited (summary, editing between works is prohibited), if a discrepancy is detected under this item, the participant will be disqualified.
  1. Participants who have scored at least 18 points in total are allowed to the second round.
  1. The order of the participants’ performances is carried out in alphabetical order.
  2. Applications for participation in the competition are accepted within the established time frame in electronic form (Google form), the link of which will be posted on the website kaznui.kz in the “Announcement” section.
  1. The electronic application of the established sample includes:
  • Competition video – which you need to upload to cloud storage (Google drive, Yandex disk, etc.) to open the access file, video link and copy and paste the relevant section in the application.
  • FULL NAME OF THE participant, teacher and concertmaster ACCORDING TO THE IDENTITY DOCUMENT;
  • A copy of the participant’s identity document (birth certificate, passport) in PDF format.
  • Certificate from the place of study in PDF format.
  • Bank details of the participant in PDF format (Certificate of the presence of an account with the bank’s seal).
  • Photo for the booklet in JPEG format.
  • The contest program of the participant.
  1. In the name of the video file, it is necessary to register the full name (according to the identity card) and designate the tour.
  1. Applications are accepted until 18: 00 (according to the time of Nur-Sultan), September 10, 2021 (inclusive)

Organizing Committee

  •  The preparation and holding of the Competition is carried out by the Organizing Committee, and the structure is approved by the order of the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Members of the Organizing Committee perform their functions on a voluntary basis.
  • The Organizing Committee cooperates with interested organizations on the preparation and conduct of the Competition.
  • The Organizing Committee manages the preparation and conduct of the Competition, determines the number of prizes and the amount of monetary remuneration.

Bonuses are paid in tenge (Kazakhstan national currency) at the exchange rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the day of payment with withholding taxes, according to the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

  1. The Organizing Committee decides on other organizational issues that arise during the preparation and conduct of the competition.
  2. Individuals and legal entities, in agreement with the Organizing Committee of the Competition, may establish other special prizes.
  3. The Organizing Committee reserves all rights to broadcast the contest days on radio and television and their further distribution without any fee to the Contest participa

The Competition Jury

  1. A Jury is created to evaluate the performances of the Competition participants, as well as to summarize the results. The Jury consists of outstanding musicians of our time, prominent figures of culture and art and is approved by the order of the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  2. The decision of the Jury is final and is not subject to revision. The decision of the jury is drawn up by a protocol and signed by all its members.
  3. The number of members of the Jury together with the chairman must be an odd number.

The Competition Jury has the right to:

  • interrupt the contestant’s performance;
  • not to award or divide among the applicants the prizes determined by the Organizing Committee.
  • The members of the Jury have no right to evaluate their students during the competition

  • Dont

  • Venyavsky
  • Paganini
  1. Old Sonata (2 parts to choose from)
  2. A virtuoso work
  3. The composition of the participant’s country

Round II

Concerto for violin and piano (1 or 2-3 parts):

  1. Viotti, A. Vietan, L. Spor, D. Kabalevsky, F. Mendelson, G. Wienyavsky, etc.

SENIOR GROUP (from 16 to 28 years inclusive)

Round I

  1. One caprice of N. Paganini to choose from.
  2. J. S. Bach-Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo, two parts of sonata with fugue or Chaconе
  3. A virtuoso work
  4. The composition of the participant’s country

Round II

Сoncerto for violin and orchestra – J. Brahms, P. I. Tchaikovsky, J. Sibelius, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovich, A. Khachaturian, E. Lalo, A. Glazunov, K. Shimanovsky, etc.
